Shouqie’s was awarded the $3,000.00 to cover his further research in Materials Engineering. The award will assist him with materials, travel and conferences.
His research work on aluminium nano-composites is highly significant in the world wide effort to reduce global warming. His compound of aluminium and carbon powders produces a material that is much lighter than aluminium, although stronger and much more inexpensive. This has particular applications in the aircraft and car industries.
Shouqie’s short term goals are to produce more materials; followed by testing and eventually to commercialise the successful products into useful industrial materials.
Congratulations Shouqie and to all other successful awardees.

Annual Street Party
On Saturday 27th March 2010, Strathmore Community Bank celebrated our 9th anniversary with a great community morning in Napier Street, Strathmore.
The weather was very kind giving us a sunny, warm morning and all in attendance were entertained by roving musicians, a jumping castle, face painting and a great magician. Highlight of the day was a visit from the Easter bunny.
Essendon Football player Angus Monfries happily signed autographs and spoke with many Bomber fans throughout the morning.
The inviting smell of sausages and onions was too much to refuse and many enjoyed a complimentary morning tea.
Directors joined in the fun and chatted to many of our customers and community members. The younger guests took advantage of the face painting, balloons, show bags and candy bars and of course the sausages.
The morning was a great success and we would like to thank all those who joined in the fun and to the 1st Strathmore Scouts and the Rotary Club of Essendon who helped out with the cooking.
